Biography

Jennifer Rust, originally from Bath, discovered her passion for singing as a founding member of the Bath Abbey Girls’ Choir. Jennifer read music at the University of Hull under the tutelage with Sarah Rhodes and studied performance at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama. In 2012 she graduated from the Royal Northern College of Music with a distinction for her Master’s degree under the guidance of the late Barbara Robotham.
At the RNCM Jennifer was a finalist in the prestigious Frederick Cox Award, a recipient of the Dame Eva Turner Scholarship and an entrance scholarship. Jennifer was highly commended in the Frank Speeding Lieder Competition at the RSAMD, was awarded the Andrew Brown Memorial Prize from the University of Hull and is recipient of a Bursary in Pursuit of Excellence from the John Lewis Partnership
Her opera roles include; Fiordiligi (Così fan tutte), Adina (L’Elisir d’amore) Lady Billows (Albert Herring), Pamina (The Magic Flute), Mother (Hansel Und Gretel) and Venus (Dido and Aeneas) She has also appeared in opera scenes as Elizabeth I (Gloriana), Desdemona (Rossini’s Otello), Marriane (Der Rosenkavalier), Arminda (La finta giardiniera) and Lillian (Happy End) and has been a member of several opera choruses.
On the concert platform, Jennifer’s performances include Handel Messiah; Haydn Nelson Mass; Mozart Requiem, Beethoven Symphony No 9, Gershwin Porgy and Bess , Brahms Requiem, Vaughn Williams Serenade to Music and Rossini Petite Messe Solennelle. Jennifer regularly performs solo recitals across venues in the UK, and was recently a guest artist with the Opera North Children’s Chorus performing Britten’s On This Island. Significantly, her solo performance at the Bridgewater Hall in Manchester for ‘An Enchanted Evening of Song with Sir Willard White’, was broadcast on Classic FM. In addition, Jennifer has performed in masterclasses with international musicians including Joan Rogers, James Bowman, Malcolm Martineau and Julius Drake.
Jennifer regularly performs for the charity Music in Hospitals and Lost Chord, taking live music into care and dementia homes.
Jennifer’s upcoming engangements include; Beethoven's 9th Symphony with the Academy of St Olaves Chamber Orchestra and an Opera Gala night with Salford Choral Society.
